Without the original dev... ok. Not sure if that's good or bad. I felt like LotF did some things right and some things wrong, and changing the developer could swing things drastically one way or the other.

Actually, LotF was done by actually multiple studios.
Deck 13 was the lead + overseer of the first game.
Deck 13 is also working on something else.

The Dark Souls-inspired role-playing game was released last year on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. Though several studios contributed to the project, Deck 13 oversaw development. Collaboration will continue for the sequel, but evidently not with the first game's lead.

...

The first game's multi-studio production — developers in China and the U.K. contributed, he told Eurogamer — will help development of the second game, according to the CEO.

...

Deck 13 will reveal a new game with publisher Focus Home Interactive later this month at E3 2015.

I'm still waiting for the first one to drop near the sale price it had for maybe a day.  After that bait-and-switch fiasco, I can't bring myself to buy it for what it sells now.

VG247 -> Exec. Producer Tomasz Gop (former lead on LoTF; worked for CDPR on Witcher 1+2) leaves City Interactive.

Lords of the Fallen 2 has lost its executive producer Tomasz Gop.

CI Games announced his departure during a news conference covered by Eurogamer Poland.

According to the studio, it wants to “reach a wider audience” with the second game in the series which has resulted in new direction for the title.

“We want to reach a wider audience for this game. That’s why we’re building a richer story. We’re aware that these aspects could’ve been better in first game, so the story is a big point of the sequel, along with robust fighting system.

“We want to bring something fresh to RPG games.”

Gop, who announced his departure from the project via Facebook, followed up CI Games’ announcement with an email to Eurogamer stating:

“I want to respect CI’s will to keep that [the reasons for their parting] between me and them,” he said. “I wanted all the best for Lords but there’s going to be someone else leading the project and we’ll see if it will make it more successful than I could.

“I made [up] my mind a couple of days ago, we just wanted to figure out the best communication for both sides.”

Gop is staying on with CI Games while he looks for other job opportunities. Before joining CI Games, he was senior producer on The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and was heavily involved in the first game in the series.

Production on Lords of the Fallen 2 will begin later this year, and the title is slated for release in 2017.

Deck 13 will not be co-developing the title as previously announced, as it is currently working on its own title The Surge.
