@Xessive
Maybe they had the forced 30FPS cap on b/c the game performs like shit on most PC's without it - i.e. go see Batman AK PC.
EDIT:
Really, though - if it performs like crap, they should have the cap on by default.
But, there should be an option to let the players be able to uncap it completely, set for 60 FPS, set 90 FPS cap, set a 120 FPS cap, and/or (better yet) just type in any cap that I freaking want.
Would make life less easier, so that I don't have to run 3rd party programs like MSI Afterburner just to cap games where I see fit.
Now that I've had a chance to play it seems to run quite well on the highest settings. That's not saying much though since 1) it's locked to 30 fps and 2) the settings are very limited. Even "custom" settings have you alternating between low, medium, and high options. For example, you have no idea what type of anti-aliasing you're using; you can only choose off, low, med, high.
Aside from a few visual artifacts and some really weird lighting bugs the game is gorgeous. It's evidently a well-crafted labor of love. It's just kind of janky and rough around the edges.
In terms of controls, the game was very clearly built with a controller in mind. The mouse movement is awkward and feels like it skips because of the frame lock, so accurate aiming is difficult and gets annoying. Even the character movement feels designed for an analogue stick but it works well enough with keyboard keys (WASD).
I'm generally more of a mouse+KB kind of guy when it comes to shooters (or any game that requires aiming really) but the frame lock really gets in the way of proper mouse usage in
Mafia III so I've opted to go with the controller. On the bright side, it feels like I'm playing a high-res console version now.
They really need to fix the technical stuff.
Otherwise, the game seems very promising and I'm quite engrossed in the story. This isn't really a spoiler since it happens right after the prologue:
I met Vito Scaletta! (The protagonist of Mafia II)
Looking forward to getting some more time in
Mafia III but I really, really hope they fix it fast!
