I never did play the 2nd one. First game was pretty phenomenal.

2nd one (Mafia II) was quite good.
Wasn't as great as the original, IMHO.
Story, characters, and gameplay were really good.

The huge open-world in the base-game goes to waste, as it's mostly a linear affair.
In the base-game, there's barely any side-quests. You basically need to buy the Jimmy's Vendetta DLC + Joe's Adventure DLC's, which are the free-roam aspects of the game.
I believe they're separate entities from the base-game itself, more or less - like Mafia 1's free-ride mode.
I never got around to buying them - as most of them are supposedly side-quests + fetch-quests; and they never were ultra-dirt cheap.

I just glanced at the community page and Mafia III is getting review-bombed on Steam!

Apparently, a number of players who have accessed pre-release versions have noticed several PC-specific issues, most notably a 30fps lock.

The devs have responded on the official page and the Steam forums:

A message to our PC players
10/6/2016

We know how important having options that best suit your PC’s performance capabilities are. The team has been hard at work ensuring that Mafia III’s performance is consistent across all platforms, and right now the game runs at a solid 30 frames-per-second. We are currently working on an update for PC that will give players the option to play Mafia III at higher framerates. We’ll share more details about the update, and when you can expect it to arrive, very soon. In the meantime, the team welcomes feedback and would like to hear from you about what performance adjustment options are important to you. We’re actively considering a number of additional post-launch improvements on PC that would give players more control over how they can tailor the game’s experience to suit their rig’s performance. It’s been an incredible journey developing Mafia III and we couldn’t be more excited to get the game in your hands and hear what you think!

I'm all for the devs doing their part to fix bugs but considering all the news-breaking cases over the past year, how the heck does a high-profile game get released with a 30fps lock on PC?? Have they not been reading the news?

@Xessive

Maybe they had the forced 30FPS cap on b/c the game performs like shit on most PC's without it - i.e. go see Batman AK PC.

EDIT:
Really, though - if it performs like crap, they should have the cap on by default.
But, there should be an option to let the players be able to uncap it completely, set for 60 FPS, set 90 FPS cap, set a 120 FPS cap, and/or (better yet) just type in any cap that I freaking want.
Would make life less easier, so that I don't have to run 3rd party programs like MSI Afterburner just to cap games where I see fit.

Now that I've had a chance to play it seems to run quite well on the highest settings. That's not saying much though since 1) it's locked to 30 fps and 2) the settings are very limited. Even "custom" settings have you alternating between low, medium, and high options. For example, you have no idea what type of anti-aliasing you're using; you can only choose off, low, med, high.

Aside from a few visual artifacts and some really weird lighting bugs the game is gorgeous. It's evidently a well-crafted labor of love. It's just kind of janky and rough around the edges.

In terms of controls, the game was very clearly built with a controller in mind. The mouse movement is awkward and feels like it skips because of the frame lock, so accurate aiming is difficult and gets annoying. Even the character movement feels designed for an analogue stick but it works well enough with keyboard keys (WASD).

I'm generally more of a mouse+KB kind of guy when it comes to shooters (or any game that requires aiming really) but the frame lock really gets in the way of proper mouse usage in Mafia III so I've opted to go with the controller. On the bright side, it feels like I'm playing a high-res console version now.

They really need to fix the technical stuff.

Otherwise, the game seems very promising and I'm quite engrossed in the story. This isn't really a spoiler since it happens right after the prologue:

Looking forward to getting some more time in Mafia III but I really, really hope they fix it fast!
