There's a market for these 8-bit games on new hardware.  Nintendo proved that with their virtual arcade.  But I don't understand it--particularly the PC release.  These are already perfectly playable, and perfect audiovisually, with every functional feature they could possibly throw into this package.  "Render in HD"?  They can't render a pixel-art 2D game in a higher resolution.  They're not remaking them.  They're just emulating them and post-processing the display so it looks good on new hardware, through sophisticated upscaling algorithms (interpolation and filtering--the screenshots there don't even go that far).  Nothing new.  Depending on the price, I suppose the extras might make it a bit enticing.

Good way to preserve a legacy = put it on the PC.

The PC is the land of such a ridiculous always ever-growing library - namely b/c of mods, Source Ports; yeah, Classic games are still being kept alive here. Whether it's Steam selling classics or GOG - the classics are often very easy to find, even if you still don't have an old retail-boxed copy of the game on disc(s). A lot of these games can work on modern Windows OS's, somehow and some way - just gotta' often dig enough and you'll hopefully find something.

I'd guess most PC's will be able to run this. Why not put it on the PC? Why limit themselves to just the consoles for sales?

I think it's great to have some of those child-hood classics finally hit the PC. With more & more games from Japan now hitting the PC audience, more re-releases, more HD Editions, and full-on XBox controller support on the PC - now's the perfect time to push it on the PC. More Final Fantasy games are hitting the PC (old + upcoming); Suda51 games hitting PC; SWERY games hitting PC (Deadly Premonition + D4); Grandia 2 HD coming here; Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes here already + Phantom Pain coming here; Valykria Chronicles coming to the PC - these companies recognize the force Steam is and that PC gamers will buy their games.

Steam is where the PC money is at, like it or not. They'd be foolish to not put it here.
Imagine how well this will sell, once it hits a Steam-sale at some kind of percent-off. At 50% off, numerous people will be all over this. It'll be even crazier, once it hits 75% - even more so of a "no brainer" for most, I'd say.

What I meant is that it's surprising that it would get any sales on PC.  Getting and running any 8- or 16-bit games on PC is one Google search away.  I can understand it more on consoles.  Convenience, achievements, kids who don't know better, etc.

I'm not begrudging them the extra sales for this ancient history.  If they can get them, more power to them.  Make loads of extra money which can go into budgets for great new stuff.  If I could make big dough by selling my old junk, I would do it too.

If this experiment is a lead to them to thinking of releasing NEW Mega Man titles on PC - I could see PC gamers buying it. I see it happening.

WB put the old MK: Kollection (MK1+2+3) on the PC; and now look - we got MK9: Komplete (after consoles) and now MK10 got a simultaneously release on PC + consoles.

Square Enix has put some of their classic FF's on PC (i.e. FF7+8 re-releases),  and now we have some of their newer ones (FFXIII 1 and 2; and will also be getting Lightning Returns) and the upcoming FF15; and they have still been releasing older FF games here.

Capcom has re-done a Resident Evil 4 HD for PC + even released RE1 HD for PC. There's rumors they are possibly planning to bring a RE2 HD here.

Also - PC version will have Challenges Mode for MM:LC.
I think MM:LC will probably likely support Steam Achievements, as well - like many of Capcom's recent PC titles on Steam.
While, I ain't the biggest fan of Achievements - but sure, if I can get a version that has them, even when I'm not trying often for them, I'll take 'em. ;)

I really think one of the best things M$ did was make the X360 pad work on the PC. That likely made it so much easier for gamepad-style games on the PC to come here.

Many who own a XB console (like X360 or X1) could just take their gamepad + use it on the PC. No need to buy another controller. If you controller's wireless, you need a receiver for it to work on PC. If you have the wired controller - plug it in.
For PC gamers - if you buy a 360 pad or X1 pad, you could use them on XB console if you ever decide to get one.
Win-win.

But, yeah - if these companies re-releasing old-games, HD'ing them, re-mastering them, or whatever can get them more money for newer project and keep them in business, I say "Go for it." I think there's a market for it, for sure. Keep the classics alive!

Yeah it's weird that it would sell on PC. Then again, people bought those Sega Genesis packs on PC.

It should be noted that this release isn't just emulation, but apparently a new cross-platform engine that they rebuilt the games on. Not sure how much of a difference it'll make.

B/c places like Amazon has sold that stuff ultra-cheap. When cheap and on sale, people will buy.
It's easier than going to go break my Genesis out - just spend the few $ for the whole pack + run 'em on my current gaming PC.

That's going to be interesting. Hopefully, this cross-platform engine does well for them.
I'm looking forward to Mega Man on my PC...when it drops in price, of course. ;)

I only have Mega Man 2 + 5 on NES. This will solve a lot of my missing old-school Mega Man game issues.

I think Cobra and I are hinting more at "Why don't you just download an emulator and the ROMs?" because that just takes a Google search. Then again, maybe more normal folk don't know emulators are a thing.

Sure, emulation is always an option...for the classic versions.
Hopefully, new re-releases/HD Version/whatever they want to call it are good and worthy addition to add to the gaming collection.

If Capcom ever wanted to do new Mega Man games and put them on the PC, PC gamers speaking w/ my wallet is the way to go to make sure of this.
I mean - We're getting more Final Fantasies and Resident Evil old and new on the PC, right?

If that's the case, that site didn't get the right screenshots.  I'd love to see any true remakes.

I'm hinting because at one point it was a thing here not to talk directly about it.  Is it still a thing?

Antares--yes, I think you're right.  Been a long time.  So, emulators are cool!

Nestopia 1.44 is just about perfect.  Needs a lot more CPU than the other NES emulators because it strives to be accurate on all the timings.  But that should not be an issue for modern systems.  All 6 NES Megaman games run without a hitch.

I think the reason they bother to put it out on PC is due to the low price point and the tendency of a lot of PC gamers to impulse buy (especially during Steam sales).

That and they built a cross platform engine so why the hell not? NOT selling them on PC is leaving money on the table. So while I would think people would just emulate, some won't. Some will want the official release. And this is supposed to have a bunch of background info and extras. I mean, I bought that 20th Anniversary Kirby collection on Wii even though emulating the games it contained would have been trivial. But it was a really nice package that I'm happy to have.
