Tweeted this earlier. I mean be as skeptical of Romero as you want, I still find him a likable guy, and I'm definitely curious what they might get up to. I have a feeling this will all turn out to be entertaining if nothing else.

Back in January Romero posted a new Doom map he had built. On the Doomworld thread about it, he was asked if he would be making more maps or a Heretic map. He replied:

I can't promise what kind of maps I'll be making. I've never made a Heretic map. I'm warming up to making all the maps for my new FPS. All of them.

Well he did tag the initial tweet with #fps #shooter and some other stuff, so I kind of assumed. After Devil Daggers, man, I'm totally down for some old-school shooter action. Especially since the new Doom isn't really a sure bet yet. I think the single player looked really solid, but the multiplayer kind of ... doesn't.

I like Romero, too.  Very personable dude, and I even posted at his web forum for a year or two.  But this guy hasn't done anything I'd consider worthwhile in decades.

I'd love to be genuinely excited about the prospect of him doing something cool, but I believe we're fooling ourselves to think it'll happen.

I can see that. But then again, he went off to make mobile games and shit. Some of which I heard were okay, but I don't know, I never played any of them. This might be nothing, but maybe he's finally getting back to making a project that interests him instead of stuff that just seemed to be where the business was. That's probably overly optimistic, but hey.

Blackroom is the new game. Well, plan for a game. There is some concept artwork but no gameplay or screenshots. Sadly the price to get a copy of the game is too rich for my blood. I do kinda hope it makes it just to see some new Romero designed levels.

It doesn't really look very interesting to me, but there really just isn't much there. The concept could be fun. Kind of Doom-ish. If they use it right, it could be neat. I'd like it to happen just to see what comes of it, and like idol said, to see some new Romero levels, but I don't think I'll put any money toward it.

Pressing Pause for a Gameplay Demo is the name of a backer only update, but the Kickstarter has been stopped for now. I think if they come back with a playable demo then they would do much better.

Yeah, they need something more than they had. If your video has "camera shake the concept art!" at any point in it, you have way, way too little to put something on Kickstarter. I'm still hopeful this will lead to something cool.
